Amazing

Like him or not I think it's inarguable that Obama is the greatest political public speaker of our time.

Obama is a great public speaker. I would argue that Bill Clinton was equal to Obama with a teleprompter and was far better without.

Well, his rise make it inarguable that he's got speaking skills. But speaking style is still a matter of taste. I personally find him very boring b/c I like humor and/or substance. He's not very funny. And he doesn't get detailed.

I liked Sarah Palin's speech a ton. I thought all the republicans tonight were excellent speakers

But I'm still voting for Ron Paul, and he's a pretty average public speaker.

we all know that everything they say is all BS anyway. Promises promises promises. meh. The essence of all their speeches is, "I want to be president... I'll say anything to get elected... elect me!" but that's just me hating on politics..:)

To me, Obama is exactly like Joel Osteen. Not my style.

I would never be so harsh as to compare him to Osteen, he has way more passion and energy but I totally get you point about details. The tension is that details add substance yet for many people create boredom.

Content completely aside his pacing was brilliant. It had ups and downs and heart and few good jabs at the opponent that hit hard but stayed above the belt and for my thus added some humor.

I think he is smart enough that his avoidance of specifics is intentional. It's harder to uphold general campaign promises than specific ones and it's harder for your opponent to pick apart a financial philosophy than a projected budget.

The problem with Osteen's preaching is that he sounds like he's trying to win a popularity contest. The brilliant thing about Obama's speeches is that they will almost definitely be the core reason he's going to win the worlds biggest popularity contest.

What do you count as our generation? Does Regan Count? I can still remember his speech after the Space Shuttle blew up in 1987. Although different from Obama he seemed to be able to inspire hope in people with his speeches.

With Obama it will be interesting to see how he does with the debates.
